1. Realize the main chemical reaction
Phenol and formaldehyde undergo condensation reaction in the reactor in the presence of a catalyst (such as acid or alkali) to produce linear or cross-linked phenolic resin. Reactor provides a controlled temperature, pressure and stirring environment, making the reaction process controllable, continuous and stable.
2. Control reaction temperature
Reactor is equipped with a jacket or coil, which can be fed with heat transfer oil, steam or cooling water to achieve precise temperature control. Different process stages (heating reaction, constant temperature polycondensation, cooling discharge) have strict temperature requirements, which directly affect the molecular weight and performance of the resin.
3. Provide effective stirring
High-viscosity reactants (especially in the middle and late stages) require strong stirring to maintain uniform mixing and prevent local overheating or agglomeration. The stirring system ensures full contact between phenol and formaldehyde, improving reaction efficiency and product quality consistency.
4. Ensure sealing and safety
Reactor is usually a closed structure and can be equipped with a vacuum system, nitrogen protection, explosion-proof motor, etc. to avoid formaldehyde volatilization, reduce the risk of oxidation reaction or explosion, and ensure the safety of operators.
5. Cooperate with dehydration and condensation system
During the reaction process, water vapor and a small amount of by-products will be produced. Reactor cooperates with the condenser and reflux system to help remove moisture, improve the purity of the resin, and recover unreacted formaldehyde and other raw materials.
6. Linkage with the discharging system
After the reaction is completed, the lower part of reactor sends the product to the cooling, storage or packaging equipment through a valve or pump to ensure the smooth operation of the entire production line.
