silicone rubber
What is HTV, RTV?
HTV and RTV are the abbreviations of high temperature vulcanization and room temperature vulcanization respectively. Vulcanization of silicone rubber is a chemical process that connects linear or branched silicone rubber molecular chains through corss-linking reactions to form a three-dimensional network structure, thereby transforming silicone rubber from a soft or sticky state into a solid rubber with elasticity, mechanical strength and durability. Vulcanization is a key step in improving the performance of silicone rubber.
Effect of Vulcanization on the Properties of Silicone Rubber
  • 1. Elasticity and Flexibility

  • The three-dimensional network structure formed gives silicone rubber excellent elasticity.

  • 2. Mechanical Strength

  • The vulcanization process significantly improves the tensile, tear and wear resistance of silicone rubber.

  • 3. Heat Resistance and Chemical Resistance

  • The vulcanized silicone rubber can maintain stable performance over a wide temperature range and has good chemical corrosion resistance.

  • 1. Curing Conditions
It needs to be vulcanized under high temperature conditions (usually 150℃-200℃), usually formed by molding, extrusion and other processes.
  • 2. Material Properties
    • Excellent high temperature resistance, able to maintain elasticity in the range of -60℃ to 250℃.
    • It has good mechanical strength, chemical resistance and electrical insulation.
    • Because high temperature vulcanization is required, the production equipment is usually more complicated and requires molds and heating equipment.
  • 3. Application Areas
    • Used for high temperature parts such as seals, pipes, gaskets in the automotive industry.
    • Sealing and insulation materials in aerospace.
    • Insulation and protection materials in the electrical and electronic fields.

RTV Silicone Rubber
  • 1. Curing Conditions
It cures at room temperature by reacting with moisture in the air without heating. It is usually divided into single-component and two-component systems.
  • 2. Material Properties
    • It is easy to use and can be directly coated or poured. It forms a soft elastomer after curing.
    • It has good weather resistance, ozone resistance and waterproof performance, and has excellent elasticity and adhesion after curing.
    • Because it cures at room temperature, the equipment requirements are relatively simple, and it is mostly used in coating, sealing, potting and other processes.
  • 3. Application Areas
    • It is used for sealing, caulking and joint sealants in the construction industry.
    • Sealing, protection and potting materials in the electronics industry.
    • Sealing, shock absorption and protection applications in the automotive industry.

JCT Machinery has silicone rubber production line turnkey project. We will design according to customers' actual requirements. The capacity of the production line can be optional, you can set up a silicone rubber production line even if you have a small budget!
