What is jacketed reactor?
A jacketed reactor is a common reaction equipment that has a jacket structure, usually containing a reaction vessel inside and a jacket layer outside. The jacket layer can be heated or cooled by media (such as water, steam or coolant) to control the temperature of reaction system. This design makes jacketed reactor suitable for various chemical reactions, synthesis reactions and other industrial production processes that require temperature control.
Q
Is the medium in jacketed reactor always circulating?
The medium in jacketed reactor usually does not circulate all the time, but is circulated or stopped as needed. During the operation of jacketed reactor, the heating or cooling medium can be circulated through pipes or circulation systems as needed to ensure that the medium within the jacket layer is maintained at an appropriate temperature. When the reaction system needs to be heated, the heating medium (such as hot water or steam) will be circulated into the jacket layer to heat the reaction system in the reaction vessel. On the contrary, when the reaction system needs to be cooled, the cooling medium will be circulated into jacket layer to absorb the heat released by the reaction system. Once the desired temperature is reached, circuation of media can be stopped while the media remains within the jacket layer to maintain a constant temperature. If the temperature of reaction system needs to be adjusted, the cycle can be restarted to readjust the temperature of medium. This cycle control method can ensure that the reaction system is always reacting under appropriate temperature conditions to achieve the required reaction effects and product quality.
