What is CMC?

CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose) is a water-soluble cellulose ether made from natural cellulose by chemical modification.
Uses: Thickener, stabilizer, adhesive, widely used in food, medicine, cosmetics, oil drilling, coatings and other industries.
Features: High viscosity, good film-forming property, strong acid and alkali resistance.

Technical Points

1. Degree of substitution (DS) control: DS=0.4~1.5 (different requirements for different uses, such as food grade DS≥0.8).
2. Viscosity adjustment: Controlled by reaction time, temperature and alkali concentration.
3. Solvent recovery: Ethanol / methanol can be recycled to reduce costs.
4. Envionmental protection requirements: Wastewater (including NaCl, NaOH) needs to be neutralized.

Application areas of CMC

1. Food grade CMC: ice cream, beverages (thickening stabilizer).
2. Pharmaceutical grade CMC: tablet adhesive, toothpaste thickener.
3. Industrial grade CMC: coatings, ceramics, oil drilling fluid (filtration loss reducer).
