Main Components of Grease
  • 1. Base Oil

  • Base oil usually accounts for 70%-90% of grease. It is the main component of grease and provides lubricity and fluidity. Base oil is generally made of mineral oil, synthetic oil (such as polyphaolefin, ester oil, etc.) or vegetable oil.

  • 2. Thickener

  • Thickener is one of the key components of grease and determines the consistency and stability of grease. Common thickeners include:

  • Soap-based Thickeners: such as calcium soap, lithium soap, aluminum soap, etc., are the most commonly used thickeners.

  • Non-soap-based Thickeners: such as polyurea, silicone oil, polymers, etc.

  • 3. Additives

  • Additives are used to improve the performance of grease, usually rust inhibitors, antioxidants, extreme pressure additives, preservatives, anti-wear agents, anti-foaming agents, etc.

Production Process of Grease

1. Raw Material Preparation: base oil + thickener + additives.
2. Heating and Mixing: heating the base oil and adding thickener, the commonly used equipment is reactor.
3. Thickening: forming thickened base oil through stirring and reaction.
4. Adding Functional Additives: adding antioxidant, anti-corrosion, anti-rust, extreme pressure and other additives as required.
5. Degassing: removing bubbles and dissolved gases by heating and placing the mixture in a vacuum environment.
6. Cooling and Homogenization: making the grease reach the required consistency and stability.
7. Quality Inspection: conducting necessary physical and chemical performance tests, including consistency, dropping point, rust resistance, oxidation resistance, wear resistance, etc.

Common Types of Grease
1. Lithium-based Grease: the most common type of grease, with good high temperature resistance, suitable for automobiles, industrial machinery and other fields.
2. Calcium-base Grease: has good water resistance and corrosion resistance, suitable for humid environments.
3. Aluminum-based Grease: suitable for high temperature and high speed working environments.
4. Lithium Composite Grease: other thickeners are added to traditional lithium-based grease, with higher performance, suitable for high load and high wear resistance occasions.
