1. Condensation and reflux
In many heating reactions (such as esterification, polycondensation, alkyd resin synthesis, etc.), the reactants need to be heated for a long time, and some solvents or water will evaporate. The condenser can cool and liquefy these steam and reflux them into the reactor to avoid material loss and maintain the reaction concentration.
2. Recover solvents or by-products
In some reactions (such as esterification), by-products such as water, alcohols, and low-boiling substances are evaporated, liquefied and collected through the condenser for subsequent separation or reuse.
3. Reduce material volatilization and improve safety
The condenser can effectively control the escape of steam, prevent volatile, flammable, and toxic substances from leaking into the air, and improve the safety and environmental protection of equipment operation.
4. Keep the reaction pressure stable
When the condenser operates well, there will not be too much steam accumulated in the system, thereby maintaining a stable micro-negative pressure or normal pressure state to prevent overpressure in the reaction.
1. Multi-tube design (improving heat exchange efficiency)
Mostly adopts tube-in-tube or coil-tube structure, that is, there are multiple thin tubes inside for steam to pass through, and the external cooling medium (such as cooling water, refrigerant) surrounds these thin tubes.
Multi-tube increases the heat exchange area, allowing steam and cooling medium to fully contact and improve condensation efficiency.
2. Split flange connection structure
Flange bolts are often used to connect with the top of the reactor, which is convenient for disassembly, maintenance and cleaning.
High-temperature resistant sealing gasketd can be equipped at the flange connection to prevent steam leakage.
3. Diverse materials and strong corrosion resistance
The main material is often SS304/316, which is suitable for most organic solvents and acid-base substances.
If used in a more corrosive system (such as chlorinated solvents), special materials such as titanium, glass lining, carbon steel + PTFE lining can be selected.
4. Equipped with colling medium inlet and outlet
The outer shell of the condenser is equipped with a coolant inlet and outlet (generally bottom inlet and top outlet) to ensure that the cooling water forms a downstream or countercurrent system and improve the cooling efficiency.
5. Optional reflux device or water separator
For reaction systems that require reflux (such as alkyd resin, unsaturated polyester resin), the condenser can be connected to the reflux pipe/reflux device.
For reactions that generate water, a water separator (oblique or U-shaped) can be connected for water-oil separaction.
6. Inclined/vertical design facilitates reflux
The condenser is usually installed vertically or with a slight inclination. The liquefied condensate naturally flows back to the reactor by gravity. The structure is simple and reliable and not easy to clog.
7. Temperature and pressure detection ports can be integrated
Some condensers are designed with thermometer ports, pressure gauge interfaces, and safety valve ports on the top or side to facilitate real-time monitoring of the safety of the condensation process.
