What Are The Differences Between Resin Production Line And Paint Production Line? | JCT Machinery

December 11, 2025
  • Resin and paint both belong to the category of chemical materials, but their production lines, which having some similarities in process, equipment and control requirements, also exhibit significant differences.

The products have different characteristics (the fundamental difference)

Resin Production LinePaint Production Line
Product Nature
High molucular weight polymers produced through chemical reactions (active reaction)Physical mixing of resin+pigments+additives (no chemical reaction pccurs)
Production MethodChemical synthesisPhysical dispersion, mixing and grinding
Process ComplexityHihg, requiring temperature and pressure controlMedium, emphasizing dispersion and fineness

Differences in manufacturing processes

alkyd resin production line
Resin Production Line
Typical Process:
Raw material metering→Feefing→Heating/catalysis→Polymerization reaction→Holding reaction→Cooling→Discharge→Filtration→Packaging

Features:
• Requires a reactor as the core equipment.
• The reaction process involves heat release, heat absorption, and pressure changes.
• Temperature, pressure, stirring speed, vacuum level, and reaction time must be strictly controlled.

Paint Production Line
Typical Process:
Dispersion→Grinding→Color matching→Dilution→Filtration→Filling

Features:
• No chemical reactions involved; the focus is on pigment dispersion and fineness control.
• Production requires physical processing equipment such as high speed disperser and sand mills.
• Temperature control requirements are relatively low.

  • Different Production Purposes
Resin production line is upstream of paint production line.
Many basic film-forming substances used in paints, such as alkyd resin, acrylic resin, and epoxy resin, come from the resin production line.

Paint production line mainly processes the resins further into finished coating products.

Similarities Between Resin and Paint Production Line
  • 1. Involvement of mixing and homogenization

  • Both types of production lines require uniform dispersion and mixing of materials.

  • 2. Similar equipment material requirements

  • SS304/316, carbon steel with anti-corrosion coating, etc., are commonly used.

  • 3. Both require explosion-proof design (especially for solvent-based products)

  • For example: explosion-proof motor, explosion-proof control cabinet, nitrogen blanketing system (used for both solvent-based resins and paints).
